Michael Turtle – TIME TRAVEL TURTLE
Summer in Europe, and the Greek islands are one of the most popular destinations for people looking for a getaway. And there’s no doubt the blue waters and sunny beaches are one of the country’s treasures (if you can avoid the tourist crowds).
Many people skip the capital city of Athens but I think it’s a wonderful place, full of historical sights and friendly fun modern culture. Sure, it’s pretty hot in the height of summer but that means it’s a perfect place to visit off-season when other parts of Europe are too cold.
Of course, the Ancient Greek Empire was one of the most important in the story of humanity so it’s no surprise there are lots of other places across Greece that are worth visiting. Archaeological sites like Mycenae, Olympia, and Epidaurus are all fairly easy for visitors to access.
Regardless of whether you’re coming for a holiday or for the history, you’ll find Greece to be a generous country with plenty of surprises.
